The band is marked for 22ct Gold, London, and the Victorian year, 1894. It features a wonderful drawing of a skeleton in black enamel. Memento Mori jewellery, which translates from Latin as Remember you must die'" has been celebrated since the 17th century, and was worn in the Victorian era as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the need to live life to the fullest.
